The East Midlands Specialist Operations Unit (EMSOU) is one of the largest collaborative policing units in the country, delivering specialist capabilities on behalf of the five East Midlands police forces. EMSOU focuses on intelligence gathering and the disruption and investigation of Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) with services including covert tactics, digital forensics, and criminal finance and asset recovery in support of investigations into people, drugs and firearms trafficking, cybercrime, fraud and money laundering, as well as prison corruption.

EMSOU are looking to provide an opportunity for up to six Year In Industry (YII) placements to join this dynamic and fast paced environment for a minimum of 10 months. We are looking for people with an inquisitive mind-set; a positive attitude to problem solving and learning new skills; and the ability to apply new knowledge and experience across a range of challenges. Effective communication is also key (both written and verbal), as is a willingness / ability to work in a sensitive environment (residency and security vetting conditions do apply).

As part of this role you will be subject to MV & SC Vetting. To support this, you will need 5 years continuous residency in the UK.

This placement is being offered in;

Project Support
The candidate can expect to work as part of the project team who provide support to the organisation with identifying and implementing efficient, effective and reasoned change management
To act as a point of contact for advice and guidance on sound methodology and project management principles within the organisation.
Assisting in the planning, co-ordination, facilitation and monitoring of EMSOU projects; such as developing new capabilities to embed service improvement tools and techniques that support the continuous modernisation of the business.

In addition to this, we are also currently advertising placements in the following areas;


Drug Administration
The candidate can expect to be working in a busy admin environment within EMSOU Forensic Services. The candidate will be responsible for:
- monitoring and responding to enquiries received via email or by telephone efficiently and professionally seeking advice as appropriate (submission queries, drugs queries etc.)
- receiving and storing drugs exhibits whilst maintaining the continuity and integrity of the exhibits as well as organising and maintaining the secure drug storeroom
- supporting the Reporting Scientists by ensuring their casework exhibit continuity is maintained and any MG22b/MG11 reports are uploaded to Niche
- undertaking the ordering of stock and consumables. Ensuring that they meet the required standards and are stored in the required manner. Managing and controlling stock and consumable levels by undertaking regular stock checks
- inputting and extracting data accurately from IT systems as required (recording of intelligence data, recording of casework data etc.)

Communications
The candidate can expect to be working as part of a small enthusiastic team ensuring that EMSOU’s efforts to tackle the most violent, serious and organised crime in the region are shared in an engaging way with our workforce, our policing colleagues and partners both locally and nationally and the public. The candidate will be required to adapt their writing to suit the target audience and be adept in the use of social media, particularly Twitter. It would be advantageous but not essential for the candidate to have a basic understanding of media law, as well as some experience with design and editing software, such as Microsoft Publisher and Adobe products.

HR Generalist
The candidate can expect to work as part of a wider HR Generalist team providing a professional and collaborate HR service within EMSOU, ensuring that business objectives are achieved by providing an effective, proactive and efficient service.

Wellbeing & EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion)
The candidate can expect to work as part of a wider HR Generalist team, with the main focus being on assisting with Wellbeing & ED&I projects and events.
