We're looking for experienced serving police constables who have a passion for serving the communities of Derbyshire. Our key purpose is to ‘Make Derbyshire Safer Together.’ To achieve this, we follow a set of principles that play an important role in our daily lives: Do the right thing, Making a difference, and Shaping the future. Join us and you’ll find they become instinctive, influencing how you work, your decisions and choices, and how you relate to the people around you.

Derbyshire is a predominantly rural area which includes large parts of the Peak District National Park, offering opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle and an enhanced quality of life. However, we also have vibrant urban centres in the city of Derby and town of Chesterfield and our central location, with excellent transport links and trains taking you to London in 90 minutes, suits those who also enjoy the city life or like to escape and travel on their rest days.

To reflect the communities we serve, we take a range of positive action measures when we’re recruiting. These aim to take away or reduce barriers that some cultural groups face when they look to work for us. We also support a number of staff support networks for people who are already part of the policing family.

Join us and you’ll need to promote equality and diversity in all you do, every day. And you’ll find our flexible policies and practices meet your individual needs, while supporting our values and ethos.

Applicants must be:

- passed their probationary period
- have a full driving licence
- be able to pass the necessary vetting and occupational health checks;
- be able to pass the basic fitness test - shuttle run (bleep test) to level 5.4
- have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues

The Recruitment Process
Stage 1: Your application – you will need to provide evidence that demonstrates your competency to be a Police Constable. Please ensure you review the Competency and Values Framework document before applying. So as an experienced officer you will have had a wealth of situations from which to draw your evidence.

Stage 2: Interview – this will take place in late June or early July. We anticipate that interviews will be held at HQ unless Government guidance at the time suggests that this is not advisable, in which case we will arrange an alternative method of conducting interviews. The interview will be with two senior officers who will be assessing you against the personal qualities required for a Constable, and also your commitment to Derbyshire Constabulary
and the challenges that we face as a County.

Stage 3: Pre–employment checks – If you are successful at the interview you will be invited in for a medical and fitness test. If you pass both the medical and fitness test we will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references.

Stage 4: Final Offer – If all of the above checks are met satisfactorily, we will write to you offering you a position with Derbyshire Constabulary.

Please do not serve your notice to your current force until you have received your final offer letter in writing.

Please note that the three week induction will need to be completed on a full time basis. The induction may be reduced based on your previous training.
