Following an internal review we are increasing our Detective numbers and are looking for experienced Detective Constables to join our team.

We want to increase the numbers of experienced detectives in our area-based CID hubs, dealing with a full range of crime investigation. For officers with appropriate experience, we also have vacancies available in Public Protection. We can provide you with career opportunities to join our renowned regional unit (the East Midlands Special Operations Unit) dealing with Major Crime, Serious and Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism across five forces. We are investing in our response to online abuse, high tech crime, foreign national offending and historic child sex abuse and there will be future opportunities in these areas too.

Derbyshire is a predominantly rural area which includes large parts of the Peak District National Park, offering opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle and an enhanced quality of life. However, we also have vibrant urban centres in the city of Derby and town of Chesterfield and our central location, with excellent transport links and trains taking you to London in 90 minutes, suits those who also enjoy the city life or like to escape and travel on their rest days.

To reflect the communities we serve, we take a range of positive action measures when we’re recruiting. These aim to take away or reduce barriers that some cultural groups face when they look to work for us. We also support a number of staff support networks for people who are already part of the policing family.
Join us and you’ll need to promote equality and diversity in all you do, every day. And you’ll find our flexible policies and practices meet your individual needs, while supporting our values and ethos.

If you are an accredited Detective Constable, with skills and experience in managing a range of complex investigations, we would love to hear from you.

You must be:
-- Substantive in the rank of Constable
- PIP level 2 accredited and occupationally competent as an Investigator
- Experience of working in a CID environment
- Knowledge and understanding of RIPA and NIM
- Full manual driving licence
- Prepared to use own vehicle and undertake assessment to drive Derbyshire police vehicles
- No outstanding discipline or integrity issues with current force.

The Recruitment Process
Stage 1: Your application – You will need to provide evidence of why you wish to transfer to Derbyshire Constabulary and what challenges do you think you will encounter.

Stage 2: You will be required to provide evidence of your PIP level 2 certificate prior to attending for interview

Stage 3: Interview – this will take place in late June or early July. We anticipate that interviews will be held at HQ unless Government guidance at the time suggests that this is not advisable, in which case we will arrange an alternative method of conducting interviews. The interview will be with two senior officers who will be assessing you against the personal qualities required for a Constable, and also your commitment to Derbyshire Constabulary
and the challenges that we face as a County.

Stage 4: Pre–employment checks – If you are successful at the interview you will be invited in for a medical and fitness test. If you pass both the medical and fitness test we will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references.

Stage 5: Final Offer – If all of the above checks are met satisfactorily, we will write to you offering you a position with Derbyshire Constabulary.

Please do not serve your notice to your current force until you have received your final offer letter in writing.

Please note that the three week induction will need to be completed on a full time basis. The induction may be reduced based on your previous training. For Officers from forces using NICHE an alternative start date may be considered on a case by case basis.

A relocation package is available if you meet the eligibility criteria. Any queries regarding the relocation scheme and its application please email HRWorkforcePlanningEnquires@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk

We are also able to offer the 'Recommend a Friend' scheme for this vacancy for officers with specific skills. Please see the attached document for full details.
