Derbyshire is a predominantly rural area which includes large parts of the Peak District National Park, offering opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle and an enhanced quality of life. However, we also have vibrant urban centres in the city of Derby and town of Chesterfield and our central location, with excellent transport links and trains taking you to London in 90 minutes, suits those who also enjoy the city life or like to escape and travel on their rest days.

Derbyshire Constabulary has recently been assessed as “good” across all areas by HMIC, with our report stating “the force provides a good service in identifying and responding to the needs of vulnerable people, including victims of domestic abuse. I have been particularly impressed by the force’s outstanding work on disrupting the activity of organised crime groups.” We have responded well to the financial pressures of recent years and our current restructuring will enable us to develop and improve further.

In November 2016, we restructured our front-line policing services. A number of dedicated response teams (6 across the county) will focus on responding to immediate and priority incidents, allowing other officers more time to provide a quality follow-up and investigation service to our residents and victims. To ensure development of all officers, there will be opportunities to rotate between response, investigation and neighbourhood policing roles.

The Recruitment Process
Stage 1: Your application – you will need to provide evidence that demonstrates your competency to be a Police Constable.

Please ensure you review the Competency and Values Framework document before applying. So as an experienced officer you will have had a wealth of situations from which to draw your evidence.

Stage 2: Interview – this will be with two senior officers who will be assessing you against the personal qualities required for a Constable, and also your commitment to Derbyshire Constabulary and the challenges that we face as a County.

Stage 3: Pre–employment checks – If you are successful at the interview you will be invited in for a medical and fitness test. If you pass both the medical and fitness test we will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references.

Stage 4: Final Offer – If all of the above checks are met satisfactorily, we will write to you offering you a position with Derbyshire Constabulary.

Please do not serve your notice to your current force until you have received your final offer letter in writing.

Please note that the three week induction will need to be completed on a full time basis. The induction may be reduced based on your previous training.
