Work as a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) can be very exciting, each day will bring new challenges.

You will be involved in the fight against a range of crime and disorder problems, keeping our communities safe.

As a PCSO you will patrol on foot, in uniform, to provide a highly visible policing presence in communities. You will get to know your allocated area and its residents, focusing on long-term problem solving to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

While patrolling, you will deal with a variety of incidents and will be responsible for enforcing law on the streets, calling on police officer colleagues where needed.

Just some of the tasks you might encounter on a daily basis will include:

  • Contributing to the regeneration of local communities
  • Increasing public safety
  • Dealing with truants, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, litter and missing persons enquiries
  • Helping to support crime victims
  • Controlling crowds at major events, such as football games or concerts
  • The early intervention of a PCSO can often deter people from committing offences, and can contribute to stopping minor problems from turning into something more serious
  • You must be able to communicate effectively and calmly in difficult situations and offer comfort and reassurance to the public.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be 18 years old on appointment
  • Hold a full manual driving licence for cars and be willing to drive a vehicle owned by Leicestershire Police (Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010)
  • To be educated to GCSE Grade C/Level 4/5 in English Language or equivalent, or be able to use English Language to that standard
  • You must be available to work between 8.00am to 11pm, seven days a week
  • You must be willing to patrol alone, including lone patrol during the hours of darkness
  • You need to have sufficient fitness to patrol the streets on foot or bicycle for long periods of time and in all weather conditions
