To provide technical advice and assistance regards digital investigations to all ranks engaged in the investigation of crime and incidents; to produce evidence in a form which is admissible in Court.

To develop and support effective change programmes and research to ensure the force has an effective response to the threat posed by crime on the ‘Cyber Spectrum’ and the need for digital investigations as part of daily business.

This support is primarily through strategic advice though Digital Media Investigators will often be the force leads for digital policing specialisms ranging including at scene forensics, vehicle forensics or cellular site analysis techniques. Whilst a Digital Media Investigator will generally only be a specialist in a single area they will be expected to fully understand the limitations and tactical nuances of each area.

Currently the Digital Media Investigation Unit operates between 0700 and 1800hrs Monday to Friday; and 08:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, these hours may be subject to change to meet demand and regularly include earlier starts to support arrest attempts and warrants. The post holder will also be required to perform on-call duties when they are fully trained.
