The Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire, Mr Rupert Matthews, is looking to appoint members to his Ethics and Transparency (ETP) Panel. The ETP is responsible for enhancing external and internal trust and confidence in the ethical governance and actions of Leicestershire Police and the Office of The Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Panel will scrutinise the behaviour, actions and decisions of police officers and staff. It will comprise unbiased and independent people with different backgrounds and experience.

The ETP will debate and advise on complex operational or personnel issues and through its work provide assurance to the Commissioner that ethical and integrity issues, plus the way complaints are handled by the police meet the highest standards.

The Panel will have seven members who either work or live in Leicestershire Police force area. Time commitment for members will include attendance at four meetings per year (and accompanying paperwork) plus some assurance work on an ongoing basis. This will include dip sampling of complaint files and scrutiny of other areas that are within the remit of the role.

To be eligible to apply to become an Ethics and Transparency Panel Member you must meet the following criteria:
• To be 18 years of age or over and live or work in the Leicestershire Police force area
• Be independent of both Leicestershire Police and Police and Crime Commissioner and his office and the force.
• Must be granted vetting clearance in accordance with National Vetting Policy for the police

Working as part of the Ethics and Transparency Panel is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland advising the Force and Police and Crime Commissioner on a range of ethical issues facing staff and Officers. The Ethics and Transparency Panel has the potential to improve and strengthen the delivery of Policing services to the public by adding value beyond audit and scrutiny.

Training will be provided and an annual allowance will be paid plus expenses. Annual allowance of £2,840 per year, plus travel expenses at Standard class rail fare or car miles at 45p per mile.
