Derbyshire Constabulary is actively recruiting experienced detectives to join our team. As a Detective Constable with Derbyshire, you will help us to keep our communities safe by focusing on identifying and protecting the vulnerable members of our community.

We are increasing the numbers of experienced detectives in each of our Public Protection Units. PPU deals with a full range of serious and complex crime investigation including child abuse including that on line, children at risk of exploitation, rape and serious sexual violence as well as domestic abuse. Detectives with this type of experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Derbyshire is a predominantly rural area which includes large parts of the Peak District National Park, offering opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle and an enhanced quality of life. However, we also have vibrant urban centres in the city of Derby and the town of Chesterfield. Our central location, with excellent transport links and trains taking you to London in 90 minutes, suiting those who also enjoy the city life or like to escape and travel on their rest days.

Derbyshire Constabulary has recently been assessed as “good” across all areas by HMIC, with our report stating “the force provides a good service in identifying and responding to the needs of vulnerable people, including victims of domestic abuse.

It continues to improve the quality of crime investigations. I have been particularly impressed by the force’s outstanding work on disrupting the activity of organised crime groups.”

We have responded well to the financial pressures of recent years and our current restructuring will enable us to develop and improve further.

To deliver excellent service, we’re dedicated to maximising your unique potential. So, we’re developing our plans for cultural change, based on our principles of doing the right thing, making a difference and shaping the future. The aim is to build a positive workplace that supports each individual to reach their full potential and invests in our leaders at every level.
